About Chicago

Chicago, located on Lake Michigan in Illinois, is among the largest cities in the U.S. Famed for its bold architecture, it has a skyline punctuated by skyscrapers such as the iconic John Hancock Center, 1,451-ft. Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) and the neo-Gothic Tribune Tower. The city is also renowned for its museums, including the Art Institute of Chicago with its noted Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works.

Chicago is served by two international airports: O’Hare International Airport, just 17 miles from downtown and is one of the largest airports in the world.  It’s North America’s major international gateway airport serving passengers form over 200 destinations round the world.  Midway International Airport is located just 10 miles from downtown Chicago and offers another convenient option for travelers with over 60 destinations.  Once you’re here, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) (www.transit Chicago.com) operates the national second largest public transportation system and serves only Chicago but also 40 neighboring communities by rail and bus.

Weather - Chicago is usually warm with occasional showers in summer.

Local Time - Chicago Time is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) - 1 hour or Central Daylight Savings Time. 

Currency and foreign exchange - The local currency is the US dollar ($). Currency can be exchanged at most banks and international airports.

Banking and credit cards - Banks are open generally from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. Automatic Teller Machines (cash dispensers) can be found almost everywhere. In shops and restaurants, credit cards accepted are American Express, Visa and Mastercard are generally accepted.

Electricity - The power supply is 120V in hotel rooms. The plug/socket system is a 2 prong plug socket. Check your computers and cell phone chargers to see if they can operate at this voltage. Appliances designed to operate only at 120V are required or a plug adapter will be needed. 

Restaurants - Chicago offers a large variety of restaurants. Typical lunch time is 12:30 p.m. and dinner 8:00 p.m.
